A Gold AT Hop Card gets you free off-peak travel on all public transport in Auckland (including we believe, ferry to Waiheke Island). Auckland Transport responded to our enquiry about concessions for non-Aucklanders is:
“The quickest and most immediate way to get access to a SuperGold concession is for customers to visit one of our customer service centres
If a customer provides their SuperGold card and a form of photo ID, they can purchase a gold HOP card and apply the concession on the spot for immediate use.
Alternatively, gold HOP cards are available for purchase at most of our retailers
Auckland-wide. However, a visit to a customer service centre is still required to apply the concession.
A further method to attain SuperGold concession on a HOP card would be to purchase a regular (blue) HOP card from our website and have it posted out to customers. They can then apply for the concession online, and by emailing in scanned copies of their SuperGold card and photo ID, the concession can be applied remotely. However, once this process has been completed, the HOP card would need to be tagged on to an Auckland Transport provided service within 60 days in order to apply the concession. So for those wishing to do this method, I would suggest only applying for the concession no more than 2 months out from the time they will be arriving in Auckland.
