Old School Reserve grew out of Manukau City Council’s Teaching Garden scheme. Its mainly Chinese and other Asian migrant gardeners give it a unique, interesting flavour and transports visitors into another world with its bamboo structures, fences and different ethnic vegetables. Repurposing of redundant materials is another of its trademarks. The garden receives significant support from the Department of Corrections and now offers Horticulture courses to the people required to do community service hours. The adjacent large reserve is planned to become a food forest once Auckland Council have given the go-ahead.
Drury Hill Wines is a specialist producer of fruit wines and fortified wines that have earned over 160 awards. Most of the fruit used comes from their orchard on site, which you will be able to explore with the long-time owner David who can show what can be done with all your excess fruit. They also have a very interesting propagation house setup, and guess what? A cellar door with wine tasting.
Drury Hill Wines also features on field trip 29C.
